A New Opportunity for Arts1 Dancers
WHAT TO EXPECT

Overview

We’re excited to announce the launch of two brand‑new competitive dance crews at Arts1 this March. These Junior and Senior Street & Commercial Competitive Crews will begin preparing to compete on the United Dance Organisation (UDO) circuit, with the first competitions scheduled for the end of this academic year.

This opportunity is open to all Arts1 dancers in school years 2–11, not just those currently taking Street or Commercial classes. If you have passion, commitment, and love to perform—this could be for you.

ABOUT THE CREWS

Students are expected to commit to regular rehearsals and be available for additional sessions scheduled around competition dates. This includes a willingness to be flexible with time commitments in the lead-up to competitions, recognising the importance of consistent attendance, preparation, and teamwork to achieve the highest possible standard.

Requirements

Date & Time
Sunday 22nd February
2:00pm – 5:00pm

Held at Arts1

Auditions will take place in a workshop‑style session, giving the panel the chance to assess dancers’ performance quality, teamwork, and potential fit for the crews.

Please come dressed in:
Leggings or tracksuit bottoms
A vest top or T‑shirt
Trainers or appropriate dance footwear
Hair tied back (long hair)
And bring a bottle of water.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Commitment & Rehearsals

Weekly Training

Dancers selected for a crew will attend weekly rehearsals during term time as part of their Arts1 timetable:

Junior Crew: 1 hour per week
Senior Crew: 1.5 hours per week

As competitions approach, additional rehearsals may be scheduled.

Company‑Style Approach

Not all dancers will necessarily perform at every competition. The crews will:

• Rotate performers depending on routines
• Build multiple performance pieces
• Work as a collaborative company with internal cover and track swaps

Travel to Competitions

Families are responsible for transport to and from events.

Lift-sharing or group travel may be arranged informally depending on location and availability.

Costs & Financial Commitment

Below is an outline of expected costs. Please note that some fees are approximate and may vary based on external providers.

Membership

Annual Arts1 Crew Membership of £75 to cover cost of creative work creation

Junior Crew

1 hr/week
£11 per hour

Senior Crew

1.5 hrs/week
£11 per hour

UDO membership is free of charge. Competition entry fees are £25 per competition, with approximately four competitions per year. Spectator tickets are priced at £25 per ticket. Costume costs are up to £50 per item, with students typically requiring up to four costume pieces across the year.
